It’s Friday the 13th!

13 Apr

…and it’s raining like cats and dogs here in LA.  I had a wonderful Easter weekend!  Church was nice and I decorated my apartment with grass, candy and dyed my Easter eggs.  Hope everyone had a nice one as well.

This past week was pretty cool.  I worked at American Film Institute, officially chose my new headshot photographer, found another television show to target and parted ways with my agent.  Springtime is the best time for actors to sign with new agencies because pilot season is now winding down and it’s still before the dead summer.

I went on with the second headshot photographer on my list because her work is amazing and she really cares about helping actors market themselves in order to book work.  I can’t wait to post my new pics on here.  I think they will help me get a better agent than my previous one, plus all the things I’ve been doing in the last month.

Tomorrow I’m going on another casting director workshop with a CD I really like.  Good times.

Keep your umbrellas close by this weekend. April showers bring May flowers! xo

American Film Institute and Headshots!

15 Mar

So today I worked as a volunteer at the SAG Conservatory office at the American Film Institute.  I go once a week to help out with casting and phone calls.  I love the Program Coordinator Dawn.  She’s super cool  and she gives tons of info about what the school offers.

Directors of student and thesis films are in and out handing in their audition and cast lists so we can contact actors for their projects.  It’s a great place to meet people in the business and learn more about what they do.  I really want to work in a casting office to learn the ropes as well, so this is a great addition to my resume.  I love the production aspects of a film so this is exciting for me to be apart of.

Tomorrow I begin my new headshot photographer hunt.  Yes, it’s already time for new headshots.  My last two experiences were not too great and the pics aren’t getting me anywhere.  I’ve done extensive research on several photographers and have narrowed them down to five so I begin meeting with them tomorrow to get a feel for who they are.  Getting headshots can be so stressful for actors.  They are our tool that gets us in the door.  I have faith that this time will work out because I’m putting a lot of effort into my search as well as how to sell my type.  St. Paddy’s Day is Saturday, so wish me luck! 😉

This ‘n That

20 Feb

Man, I haven’t been on here for minute!  I had a huge allergy attack so anti-histamines have made me groggy the past few days.  Anyway, it’s President’s Day so I’m spending the holiday getting better and working on my audition scene for tonight.  Yep, I’m starting new on-camera audition technique classes for the next 12 weeks and super excited.  The scene is from “Kramer vs. Kramer” and boy, is it intense.  I can see why my teacher picked it out because it’s a hard scene to do when you’re confined to chair and a camera is zoomed into only your face!

This weekend I started Mardi Gras early at The Farmers Market located by the Grove.  They had a zydeco band playing music and people were throwing beads.  There’s a Creole/Cajun restaurant there, too and unfortunately their gumbo sucked. 😦  But the beignets and King Cake were tasty.  I’ll be celebrating even more tomorrow night on Fat Tuesday.

I also attended another casting director workshop this past weekend.  Instead of preparing our own material, this casting director gave us scenes with partners and a cold read.  I really liked the scene but unfortunately my partner was not too great…;p   Sam Christensen studio had their monthly follow-up meeting last night and it was ah-mazing as usual.  Sam specializes in helping actors find their brand and how to sell themselves.  It really motivated me to continue to use the work we did in his seminar in my everyday life.

I’m super excited about tomorrow.  Not just because it’s Mardi Gras, but I’ll be back working with the AFI students for their lighting class.  Last week was awesome because I worked with a huge director of cinematography in mega films such as “Wedding Crashers” and we shot a car commercial.  If I can, I’ll post it up here for everyone to see.

Earlier this month I finally opened up a Google Plus account but I still can’t figure that thing out!

Have a great President’ Day and Mardi Gras! xo
